Il Villaggio Cheese Review and Giveaway

Disclaimer: I received products in exchange for this review. As always all opinions expressed are my own.
Il Villaggio Cheese

I love cheese. Not a little bit, but I pretty much have had a life long love affair with cheese. When I was a vegetarian I was horrible about eating cheese and not much of anything else. I still love cheese, but now I use it as an ingredient to impart great flavor to dishes. A little bit of cheese can make an okay recipe into something great. I don't limit myself to just main dishes either, desserts can be made over the top by adding a small amount of mascarpone to add texture and flavor. Recently I was given the opportunity to try a variety of fresh cheeses from Il Villaggio.

I was sent 6 cheeses to review: 2 gorgonzola, 2 mascarpone and 2 fresh mozzarella. When I opened the box I was very excited, recipes started racing through my head and I knew within a couple of hours what I would make with each of the cheese. So here is what I made:
Gluten Free Pizza with Mozzarella and Gorgonzola

I made two pizzas, one gluten free and one regular. I caramelized 2 lbs of onions, made a homemade garlic pizza sauce, sliced the mozzarella and baked at 425 for 20 minutes. Then I added gorgonzola and then baked for another 5 minutes.
Mashed Potatoes with Gorgonzola Cheese and Bacon

The second recipe I made was gorgonzola mashed potatoes. I boiled 1 pound of baby red potatoes, added heavy cream, gorgonzola and crumbled crispy bacon along with salt once the potatoes were cooked and drained.
Pumpkin Mascarpone Pie with Mascarpone Cream

The final recipe I made was a pumpkin pie with mascarpone cream. Using mascarpone in desserts is delicious. It makes pies extra creamy and light. Using the cheese in whipped cream is a great way to make non-runny whipped cream that stays firm in the fridge for days.

So how did the cheeses taste and work in recipes? They all worked very well in the recipes I tried. I hadn't baked with mascarpone in a while, so it was nice to use it again. It's one of my favorite cheeses to use in desserts. The flavors were great and the cheeses arrived fresh and ready to use. These would be cheeses that I would buy at the grocery store and enjoy in recipes or as is.

Now for the fun part! You can try the same cheeses that I enjoyed by entering my giveaway below. No PO Boxes, US only. Good luck everyone!
